Bmx-Tastic-Brilliant!

I used to love BMX riding more than that moment when you realize that the piece of paper on the floor right next to you is, yes, a five pound note and nobody else has seen it! And I’ll tell you why: BMX riding involves – and this is something that few people outside of BMX know about – all the parts of your brain and body working in unison together to make sure that you don’t get killed or really injured. Of course, over the years there were various times when various parts of my brain and body let me down and got me really injured or just plain chucked on the floor; such as the time I went flying over the handlebars and down a huge flight of stairs and somehow did not get all smashed up and only got a bit grazed and stood up straight after it and said “Wow, that was brilliant!” And then there was the time I was going down a notoriously big fast hill on my brand new BMX and the little bolt that holds the saddle on snapped, clean off, and I fell off the back of the bike and got the world’s most burnt backside when I landed on the tarmac at about thirty miles per hour with only my jeans separating my flesh from the road. Also brilliant in a weird kind of a way. Then there were all the times, over the years, when a trick was pulled and it took me literally fifty or seventy or even one hundred attempts to get done, and me and my friends would ride back home sweaty, hurting and absolutely satisfied to collapse on the cheap sofas that decorated our flats. Those were some magic times. You just can’t ever forget how magic they were.
